Saint Joseph Residence - A caring residence for persons living with HIV/AIDS

Saint Joseph Residence was founded in 1987 to provide supportive nursing services in a caring residential environment for persons living with HIV/AIDS. It strives to enhance the spiritual, physical, mental and social well-being of the residents in a home-like community. Professional counseling and other supportive services along with a full-time nursing presence are available to the residents.

Saint Joseph Residence is not a hospice. We are a transitional living facility. Our goal is to help our residents build a social service network and achieve the life skills necessary for independent living.

Eligibility

Men and women living with HIV/AIDS, without regard to race, religious affiliation, or nationality may be considered for admission to Saint Joseph Residence.

To be considered, the applicant:

  • Must be under the care of a local physician
  • Does not have a medical need that exceeds the scope of services available at Saint Joseph
  • Must have a local physician who agrees that the environment at Saint Joseph is appropriate for the applicant
  • Has made arrangements to obtain all medications
  • Is free of tuberculosis
  • Agrees to follow the program guidelines
  • Must be clean and sober

Cost

There is no charge for those who are accepted for residency at Saint Joseph Residence. Room and board are free. Residents are responsible for their medication costs and personal items.

Services

Because residents may have a wide range of symptoms and of self-sufficiency, an individual plan will be developed for each resident.

Resources available to Saint Joseph Residence for achieving the goals of the plan are based on an initial assessment and include nursing services, management of medications, a nutritional program, and attention to the emotional, social, psychological and spiritual needs of the resident.

"While at St. Joseph Residence I have been granted space and essential resources to refocus and restart life anew with the knowledge, belief and better understanding that all is possible. I have been treated with respect and valued as a human being in spite of my tribulations. I have also learned never to give up. My life has become meaningful and brighter everyday of my stay."
